Southern Mexico, Central America, and northern South America

Color/Description

Dark reddish brown to nearly black, sometimes with a strong purple hue. Curly or wavy grain are not uncommon.

Workability

Considered difficult to work with due to its density. Can be troublesome to glue because of its high density and natural oils present.

Uses

Inlays, fine furniture, cabinets, parquet floors, guitars, turnings, etc.
